We are very proud to announce that our first baby animal to be born on Bryarton Farm has arrived!
Though Margaret was setting on 7 eggs, this little black chick is her sole hatchling. Being only one year old herself, Maggie is still learning how to be a good mother.
We do not know if the chick is a girl or a boy yet. This is making it quite difficult to come up with a name for the little fluff ball.
However, we thought it might be fun to see how creative our readers are. We would like YOU to submit names for our first Bryarton-born farm animal in the comments section below. Our only stipulation is that your name submissions be from one of Jane Austin’s novels, since that is where all the rest of our chickens’ names came from. We will announce the winning name in next week’s post.
The names of our adult chickens are:
Emma
Elenore
Maggie
Fanny
Lizzy
Jane
Mary
Kitty
Lydia
Mr. Bingley
Georgiana
Mr. Darcy

Oh! I love Augusta, and that can easily be shortened to Gus if the little fuzzins turns out to be a rooster. Elliot can go either way as well!
Those are excellent submissions, Hattie! I love that you thought of ones that can go either way.
I was thinking perhaps Mr. or Mrs. Bennett. Some of my favorite characters.
Yes, they are funny characters! Love them! Great submission!
